In this week’s episode, the last of Season 6, Greg and Patrick pull back the curtain and reveal how the Quantitude sausage is actually made. Their motivation is to share their own joys and challenges in making a podcast in the hope that others might consider doing this themselves, whether it be for simple self-satisfaction or for using it as a free speech platform in a time when other avenues of communication are feeling increasingly compromised. Along the way they also discuss baring your soul, being 20 minutes away, losing money, Guglielmo Marconi, palak paneer, Taylor Swift, Machiavelli’s bad rap, Quincy Jones, hostage negotiations, two blind squirrels, our Innies, for love of the game, Jiffy (in moderation), Blood Meridian, and Edmund Burke.
Below are links to software and resources we use in the creation of the podcast. We have no financial relationship with any of these and only share them for your convenience.
- Levelator: a freeware program for leveling out variations in audio files; we use this first for each audio track separately, and the both simultaneously.
- Audacity: a freeware program for editing audio files and creating a final MP3 for posting. This offers many advanced features, but often only the basics are needed and these can be quickly learned given a bit of patience and watching a few YouTube videos.
- Buzzsprout: A tiered monthly subscription service for podcast hosting. We have been happy with this platform, but countless others are available.
- ICDSoft: A tiered monthly subscription service for web page hosting. As with Buzzsprout, we have been happy with this platform, but countless others are available.
- Otter: A tiered monthly subscription for creating AI-derived written transcripts from audio files. We have been less pleased with this platform and no longer use this regularly.
- Redbubble: A platform for creating and selling podcast merchandise. This is quite easy to use and you simply need graphics files for logos or other images.
- Donors Choose: A non-profit organization for donating to targeted projects. We send all proceeds from merchandise sales here to fund quantitative-related classroom needs and projects.
